I’m awake and I can see

What this world will do to me

It’ll tear me down

and change who I am

It’ll take me from myself again

It’ll try to fit me in it’s box

And chain me down with tons of locks

It’ll try to make me like everyone else

Just another identical thing

collecting dust on the shelf.

It’ll try to make me think

in ways that benefit the few

It’ll try to turn my mind into glue

Only sticking thoughts to it and holding them there

Unable to escape from society’s snare.

I’m awake and I can see

What it is I need to be.

A silent observer

A firm oak tree.

Knowing that my roots run deep

So here I’ll hold myself.

And I’ll provide shelter and shade

A slave of society you’ll not be made.

I am awake.
