I cannot express my disgust

For the phrase

Boys will be boys

I cannot express my disgust

For the thought

That girls are just toys

I cannot express my disgust

For the idea

That a boy cannot cry

I cannot express my disgust

For the way

That a girl cannot show her thigh

I cannot express my disgust

For the fact

That boys cannot wear pink

I cannot express my disgust

For the way

Weakness and femininity are linked

I cannot express my disgust

For the fact

That men cannot wear skirts

I cannot express my disgust

For the way

We are all treated since our birth.

“Man up!”

“Grow a pair!”

“If you act like that, you don’t have a prayer”

“You’re a bitch!”

“What a slut!”

“Well, were you wearing enough?”

These things aren’t normal

To lock people in a cage

This is what causes anger and rage.

Why is it feminine

To be less?

Why is it considered girly,

If you wear a dress?

Why is it manly

To cuss and fight?

Why is it manly

If you hide that you’re not alright?

I cannot express my disgust

With how we are all brought up.

Within this society

The cage inside you and me.

We need to break free.

Be yourself. Live.
