Speak

I so desperately want to explore the world
But I’m trapped here in my own
I so desperately want to connect our truths
But I’m trapped here all alone.
A different language not just a different culture
Isolated in the desert like a vulture
Trying to scratch my way through the glass
That I’m looking through, so I can attach
More meaning than I ever have
To more than I’ve ever known
To be part of the group but not of the drone
Of noise that’s emitted from one person to the next
Speaking different languages without any rest.
We forget we have bodies
And can use art to communicate our thoughts
We can create friendships with animals but with each other we’ve forgot
How to simply wave and say hello
Ask the others name and if they want to go
On an adventure with you for a little while
Connecting your existences for a turn of the dial
All the while in complete denial
That once the night is over you’re back to survival
In your own little world in your own little head
Surrounded once more by society’s dread.
Try to get up and don’t make the bed
Leave it behind and find a new future instead.
Learn to speak.
