Her Temple

jungle temple

she danced around the temple
while all the preachers said
she should probably run away
she’d be better off dead

she danced around the temple
with a heart filled with light
no shoes no shirt
just her body and the night

she danced around the temple
chanting little rhymes
her voice barely above a whisper
noting the passage of time

she danced around the temple
and she swore allegiance to none
no man, no God, no animal
no space, no comet, no Sun

she danced around the temple
and her hips swayed to the moon
back and forth like a pendulum
as she orbited around the room

she danced around the temple
and the temple was no longer dead
it danced along beside her
singing songs of those it led

she danced around the temple
all the priests left in a huff
all the false gods disappeared
and she was left with more than enough

she danced around the temple
and she filled the room with love
she showed kindness and understanding
and what was waiting up above

she danced around her temple
for she had taken it not by force
but with a quiet whisper and a soft dance
and she let life play out its course

She danced around Her temple
