The Cat and Her Fiddle

The Cat and the Fiddle

hey, Diddle Diddle
the cat played the fiddle
while her mom had a cow and just about jumped over the moon

you see she just wanted to travel
and follow her heart
and marry that boy for whom she just about swooned

so, she picked up an instrument
and started to play
and played from early morning until the next day at noon

when mama cat saw
that she was aiming to make more
of herself and would leave quite soon

she grabbed up that fiddle
and broke it in half
and told her “you’ll not play again another tune”

but you know what, Diddle Diddle?
what she did with that fiddle?
that her mama had broken clean in two?

she grabbed it up later that night
and with great strain and great might
she taped it back together good as new

she then packed up her things
an extra bow and some strings
and headed out the great oak door

she looks back over her shoulder
not even her mother could hold her
from the life she had been destined for.

hey, Diddle Diddle.
the cat now plays her fiddle
and sends her mother a post card every day.

she married that boy and now travels
with him and his friends
playing her heart out in every single way.

hey, Diddle Diddle.
pick up your fiddle
and don’t let a soul have a say

on what you can do
that makes you happy and makes you, you
no matter what, be your full self at the end of the day.
