so I want to be a writer
that’s easy enough to say
people say they want to be a writer
each and every day
so I want to be a writer
that’s easy enough to do
just sit down and write something
as long as it means something to you
so I want to be a writer
that’s easy enough to be
as long as you keep writing
and creating new things consistently
so I want to be a writer
that’s a hard way to support
myself in my passion
because money for the bills is always short
so I want to be a writer
but no one values art anymore
they always take for granted
entertainment in all its forms
so I want to be a writer
but I have to also market myself
sell my poems and books
if I want to make it on your shelf
so I want to be a writer
but theres much more to it than that
its constantly self advertising
and proving to the world that
I deserve their hard earned money
their attention and their time
that I deserve to be named “author”
because I’ve showed that I’m
capable of making others laugh
and of making others cry
capable of producing books
that others want to buy
so I want to be a writer
that’s easy when its for sport
but when you want to make it a career
it feels that you come up a little short
so I want to be a writer
but my want is now my need
I am giving myself no way out
there is no “Plan B”
so I want to be a writer
and so I writer I will become
over time I will prove to the world
that the uphill battle I’ll have won
